Sven Van De Voorde

Sven studied classical music and jazz in Ghent (Belgium), Tilburg (Netherlands) and Helsinki (Finland), earning master’s degrees for both clarinet and accordion.

He won first prizes from Belfius Classics for accordion, clarinet and chamber music, and he is a laureate of the international clarinet competitions in Ghent (Belgium) and Carlino (Italy).

After completing his studies, he played for several years as principal clarinetist with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra, touring Europe, China and Japan. At the same time, he continued to play light music on accordion in klezmer and jazz bands.

Sven combines an intuitive way of improvising with a complete mastery of his instruments, making him a perfect fit for Gypsy music.
